QuestionsFrequently asked questions
Short answers about our reactor, our biochar results and how to work with us.
The reactor
What does Shaiva Green Carbons make?
We design and manufacture patented continuous rotary reactors for pyrolysis and torrefaction, sold as machines or turnkey plants. We also provide project consultancy and Owner's Engineer services.
Is the reactor patented?
Yes. Our reactor technology is patented in India.
What is the difference between pyrolysis and torrefaction?
Both heat biomass without oxygen. Torrefaction runs cooler, at roughly 250–300 °C, and makes bio-coal that is burned as fuel. Pyrolysis runs hotter and longer and makes biochar, which is kept out of the atmosphere to store carbon. Our reactor does both.
What temperature does the reactor run at?
250–500 °C, with a residence time of 45–90 minutes, across torrefaction and pyrolysis modes. Our certified biochar is made at 400–450 °C with 60–90 minutes residence time.
What capacity is the reactor?
0.4 TPH (400 kg/hr) per line has been demonstrated. Lines of 0.8–1.0 TPH and 2.0 TPH are in design, and the modular build lets a plant add lines in stages.
Is it a batch or continuous process?
Continuous. Biomass feeds in and product discharges without stopping the reactor.
Which feedstocks can it use?
Woody biomass such as Prosopis juliflora and bamboo, wood chips, sawdust, agricultural residues including paddy straw, and RDF from municipal solid waste.
Does wet biomass need a separate dryer?
No. An integrated dryer uses hot flue gas from the reactor's burner, so high-moisture feedstock goes in directly.
Does the reactor need external fuel?
Once running, it burns its own process gases to heat the drum, so it is self-sustaining.
Results
Is your biochar certified?
Yes. Biochar made from Prosopis juliflora in an SGC reactor is certified Isometric Class 1. The certification covers Juliflora feedstock only.
What are the biochar quality results?
Organic carbon of 80.9% or higher and an H/C ratio of 0.38 or lower, against European Biochar Certificate limits of 50% minimum and 0.7 maximum.
Where were these results produced?
At a demonstration plant in Sanchore, Rajasthan, which runs an SGC-designed and SGC-built reactor.
Can I see the test report?
Yes. Qualified buyers and partners can request it under NDA.
Working with us
Do you sell biochar or bio-coal?
